Weighted exercise balls have been in use for around 50 years, although their original intended application was as a back-care tool for physical and occupational therapy—users recovering from injury or surgery can improve joint mobility and muscle flexibility when they move on the balls in a static or assistive manner.
As these portable, lightweight, and relatively inexpensive tools gained in popularity, their use crossed over into the fitness arena, and they soon became popular for core conditioning and full-body training. Holding, rolling, tossing, catching, and/or bouncing a stability exercise ball with the entire body in motion helps elevate the heart rate and burn calories. Moving on a balance exercise ball in a dynamic manner with body weight, free weight, pulley weight, or rubber resistance tools helps increase strength; they can also be used as a less-stable bench to perform traditional dumbbell and barbell exercises.

SPRI became one of the first companies to develop a true “slow-deflate” stability ball. If and when SPRI weighted stability balls are punctured or torn, they will hold their original shape, losing air slowly rather than bursting. This ensures maximum safety while sitting, lying, kneeling, or lifting weights on the ball (up to 300, 400, or 500 pounds, depending on the ball).
